Build over surveys are required by water authorities for any extensions or construction within 3 metres of a public sewer. This is required under
Building regulations 2010 part H4

The local water authority to our base postcode is Severn Trent and so we shall refer to Severn Trent and provide links to their website on this page. If your water authority is not Severn Trent then we advise you look on your local water authorities website for detailed instructions on your build over survey.

Build over surveys require a scaled plan showing the position of the line, a CCTV survey of the line in question detailing any faults observed and a follow up survey after to prove that you have not caused any damage to the sewers.
All build over surveys provided by us come as an all-inclusive package which includes; all travel, up to 2 hours onsite and all reporting. Reports are inclusive of scaled plans, CCTV survey with footage provided on a disk, manhole and chamber locations, invert levels, pipe sizes, pipe materials, structural reports, engineers report detailing observations and any recommendations.

Important Notes:
A public sewer is defined as any drainage that takes more than one households waste.
From 1st October 2011 many private sewers were transferred into public ownership and may not be recorded on the public sewer map.
Flats and multiple tenants at the same property count as private property. It is the responsibility of the landlord to ensure that any drainage within their boundary is properly maintained.
Asset Location Search:
An Asset Location Search (ALS) provides information on the location of known Water Authorities clean and/or waste water assets, including pipe sizes, direction of flow and depth information (cover and invert levels information will only be provided where the data is available).
Sonde & Trace:
Sonde and trace is utilised by attaching a sonde to our push rod cameras, crawler cameras or drain rods to trace it from the surface using a signal receiver. This allows us to accurately trace the line below ground. This is very beneficial for plotting the drainage onto scaled plans and for locating where remedial works are required. If required, we can mark up on the ground where the line runs too or where a connection or a collapsed pipe is.
Dye Testing:
Dye testing is used to prove connections that drop in blind or where you cannot otherwise CCTV survey (for example: partially collapsed pipe where CCTV equipment will not pass). Using a combination of surveying and dye testing we can accurately map out all the drainage belonging to the property. Drain dye is taken to all surveys.
